Masks of Nyarlathotep Conversion: d20 System

Like many of the articles here, I must instead point you to the folks at Yog-Sothoth.com, who’ve already done the grunt work on this Masks of Nyarlathotep conversion. If you visit this page, you can download all you need to play Masks in the unforgiving d20 mode.

Masks of Nyarlathotep Conversion: Trail of Cthulhu

Pelgrane Press have gone ahead and converted Masks of Nyarlathotep to the Trail of Cthulhu system. There is a free pdf available here for download. I actually prefer Trail of Cthulhu to Call of Cthluhu in many cases. Straight horror and investigative scenarios play out very smoothly in their system. I do feel though that Masks of Nyarlathotep is not the ideal scenario to convert. It is a very pulpy adventure game. The primary focus is generally not the horror investigation, but the adventure.

If you’ve changed that, let me know. I’d to hear how YOU converted Masks of Nyarlathotep to be more, well, Lovecraftian.

Masks of Nyarlathotep: More???

I’d be very interested in hearing more information about converting Masks to your favorite system. Savage Worlds seems ideal, FATE, even severe changes, something like AD&D or Cthulhu Invictus, I can imagine those being good.

Have you moved Masks of Nyarlathotep to a different time period or setting? Could the clues be scattered through time, so that you travel through time to solve the mystery of Jackson Elias? Could the clues be scattered through the solar system? Instead of Kenya, Egypt, Australia, etc, imagine roaming from planet to planet instead.

It is the sandbox nature of Masks of Nyarlathotep that lends itself so well to conversions. The skeleton of the game is very strong, I think it can survive almost any kind of transplant.

Please, if you do know of any other resources or conversions, please let me know in the comments or e-mail me at matt@twilitgrotto.com!
